SPIRITUALITY AND GENOMICS
Scientists look at “spirituality†as a mystical, irrational and invalidated process of personal escapism into the realms of the supernatural. Like most things modern day "scientists" dictate, these views are unfounded.
The common belief that spiritual people are happier and healthier than the rest that chase the color of money is actually based on science. Spirituality is not some irrational approach but a scientific one. Spirituality results in positive vibrations in our cells, the harmony that is created within us results in the production of neurochemicals that play an important role in happiness and health. Endocannabinoids, “The Bliss Molecule†are self-produced cannabis that work on the CB-1 and CB-2 receptors of the cannabinoid system. Anandamide (from the Sanskrit “Ananda†meaning Bliss) is the most well known endocannabinoid. There are several such neurochemicals that play an important psychological/physiological role in our daily lives. Spirituality results in bliss!
Meditation has been proven to create a positive environment for positive neurological processes. Neuroimaging studies have shown that meditation results in an activation of the prefrontal cortex, activation of the thalamus and the inhibitory thalamic reticular nucleus and a resultant functional deafferentation of the parietal lobe. The neurochemical change as a result of meditative practices involves all the major neurotransmitter systems. The neurotransmitter changes contribute to the amelioration of anxiety and depressive symptomatology and in part explain the psychotogenic property of meditation. There is growing evidence that meditation/spirituality can switch ‘on†& “off†genes. The neurological impact of meditation helps switch off “bad†ones and switch on “good†ones. Meditation helps the body release serotonin naturally. It does so by inhibiting activity in the stress-producing regions of the brain: the amygdala and the right prefrontal cortex. It also increases activity in the happiness-producing, or calming, region of the brain: the left prefrontal cortex. Serotonin regulates sleep patterns and is instrumental in physical and emotional health. Thus it is clear that meditation/spirituality play an important role in health way beyond the understanding of “conventional†science. Vedic physicians have treated life threatening disease with meditation and herbs..
Genomics has proven that our cells retain the memory of our existence through time and space. The information contained in each cells has the ability to result in self destruction ( auto immune disease) or in preservation and regeneration. The exchange of information within our bodies and the way cells react to internal/external stimuli is known as gene expression and each step in the flow of information from DNA to RNA to protein provides the cell with a potential control point for self-regulating its functions by adjusting the amount and type of proteins it manufactures leading to a health status. Synthetic chemicals have invaded our genes and have caused a breakdown in the way genes express themselves positively
Spirituality results in the exchange of information dictated by the harmonious state of a person’s mind that expresses itself in a positive manner further resulting in happiness and good health.
